Archive All Files / GIS Raster Data / General GIS Data / Other
Description

These data were collected to reconstruct spatially-explicit land use/land cover change trajectories that were temporally consistent and at very high accuracies. The data were developed for four watersheds in Macon County, NC: Cartoogechaye, Coweeta, Skeenah Creek Watershed and Watauga. Buildings (pts) and roads (lines) were digitized from historic maps and aerial photographs and aligned where necessary for temporal consistency. Land cover was simultaneously classified across all years for each 25x25m pixel (1/16 ha) in order to maximize temporal consistency. Land cover was manually classified for each 25x25m cell (1/16th of a ha). Classifications were completed for each 10x10m cell simultaneously across all years to maximize temporal accuracy and consistency. Six land cover classes were used:

Code--Name (description)

1)--100% forest

2)--Transitional forest (those areas at least 25% forest cover that were abandoned or harvested and left to return to 100% forest)

3)--Agriculture

4)--Riparian/Shrubland

5)--Developed

6)--Open Water (mostly rivers and streams were open water was visible and ponds)
